| CASE STUDY: Christmas Island Port Authority |
Christmas Island is located 2600 kilometres from Perth in the Indian Ocean. The Island houses a space-launch facility, immigration facility and phosphate mining as well as a growing tourism industry. The port is used by ships importing and exporting goods to Australia, as well as a landing for ships traveling from Europe/Middle East to North Asia.
Limited staffing and legislative changes enabled the Ports Authority to implement a GPAC System® to provide monitoring and management of all activities in the secure "destuffing area". Access, movement(personnel and ship) and activity are all monitored with alerting provided in non-compliance situations. Audit logs record all movement and incidents as well as allowing users to make annotations against incidents. The system was installed to specifically comply with the Maritime Security Act.
