Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) is fundamental to ensure the stability and reliability of the infrastructure systems that are vital to maintaining a nation's economic security. These critical systems include control systems for electric power, natural gas, petroleum products, and water; telephone, radio, and television communications systems; ground, rail, and air transportation facilities; and communications networks. There are numerous varied threats to the complex and interdependent systems, subsystems, and components of a nation's core infrastructure. Solutions do include conventional security measures as well as those offered by emerging technologies such as Security Automation. Stable new technologies coupled with IP based cameras and security devices offer the opportunity for the economic roll-out of security systems that facilitate advanced intrusion detection, intelligence gathering and incident pre-emption. Using the GPAC System® the seemingly mutually exclusive goals of minimizing the cost of deploying, maintaining and modifying such systems, while maximizing operational flexibility with a pre-emptive approach can be realized. This approach is characterized as 'Security Automation' and the GPAC System® delivers a practical implementation that is superior to current approaches and more far sighted than 'smart video' technologies. |
